November

As the election approaches the media and some government officials like Anthony Fauci become more frantic in their condemnations of President Trump over his COVID-19 response. A number of media sources report “surging” COVID cases and hospitalizations in the days leading up to the election.

After a few days Biden is ultimately determined to be the winner of the 2020 election, and news stories immediately shift to actions he will or should take to curb COVID-19. Media reports indicate the Trump administration does not work with Biden’s transition team on COVID-19 topics.

School shutdowns are still a matter of debate (and practice), with some calling them necessary and others advocating for schools to stay open to prevent learning loss.

15 million minks suspected of carrying COVID are culled in Denmark. Their dead bodies reemerge from their mass grave later in the month, causing more health concerns.

After months of debate around vaccine prioritization, CDC recommends first doses go to healthcare workers.

The media still aggressively pushes mask wearing and lockdowns, and criticizes rallies and demonstrations protesting those policies. The term “pandemic fatigue” gains popularity as people become tired of COVID-19 restrictions.

A Danish study is published finding masks do not protect wearers from contracting COVID, which causes backlash in many media outlets.

Shortly after the election results are announced, Pfizer releases data claiming their COVID-19 vaccine is 90% effective. Trump claims these results were purposefully held back until after the election.

Moderna’s vaccine is announced to be 94.5% effective. CEO of Moderna predicts the vaccine will be available to every American by June.

Thanksgiving is on November 26. Fauci and the broader media landscape strongly discourage family gatherings. The CDC suggests bringing your own food if you “insist” on doing Thanksgiving this year.
